These marketing things are planned out well in advance, so it's purely sad coincidence that Tom Clancy passed away in the same week that the poster and trailer for the new movie based on his beloved character debuts. That being sad, it's still a bit eerie that the legendary author, who died this week at age 66, seemingly heralded Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit's marketing efforts.

What's even more eery is that the poster (which you can see below) features Chris Pine as Jack Ryan with his head bowed and crouched in a deferential posture that one could interpret as him paying respect. Again, this is surely coincidental as these things are planned way in advance and require several signatures, but it doesn't make it any less eerie.

The trailer debuts later today and it remains to be seen if they'll mention or pay tribute to Clancy in any way, but you have to figure that they will. He is the man that first breathed life into this character and it will be sad thinking about Jack Ryan living on, but I suppose all great characters outlive their creators.

Rest in peace Tom and thank you for the great reads and a amazing character in Jack Ryan.
