Director

Classic Story. Award-Winning Cast. Acclaimed Director. All the ingredients for a warm-hearted family entertainment come together in this adaptation of HOBSON'S CHOICE- based on the classic play by Harold Bridgehouse. Set against the backdrop of the French Quarter of 1914 New Orleans, the story follows the flamboyant and pompous Henry Horatio Hobson- played to perfection by Emmy Winner* and Oscar nominee** Jack Warden. Hobson loves the status quo almost as much as he loves his whiskey. While he carouses at the local tavern, his business is run by Maggie (Golden Globe winner*** Sharon Gless), the eldest and most spirited of his three unmarried daughters. Maggie is stung by her father's belief that she'll wind up an old maid and his refusal to give her a dowry. She goes about plotting a rebellion that will prove her father wrong in love and business. In a rare TV appearance, screen legend Lillian Gish plays Maggie's affluent ally. Yet another Emmy Winner****, Richard Thomas, is featured as a simple shoemaker. Trivia Buffs will also appreciate an early performance by Robert Englund, now famous for playing Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street. * 1972 Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Drama for "Brian's Song" ** 1978 Best Actor in a Supporting Role for "Heaven Can Wait" and 1975 Best Actor in a Supporting Role for "Shampoo" ***1991 Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series -- Drama for "Trials of Rosie O'Neil" and 1986 Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series -- Drama for "Cagney and Lacey" ****1973 Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for "The Waltons"
