Richard Gere is Jack Moore, an attorney who comes toChina to close a satellite communications deal with theChinese government. After a night with an exoticbeauty, he finds himself in a situation that he can'ttalk his way out of. He is arrested for a murder he didnot commit and must negotiate his way through thevery different Chinese legal system where a guiltyparty is shot within a week of his sentencing and thecost of the bullet is billed to his family. His onlychance lies with the court- appointed defense advocateplayed by Bia Ling.
