If movie theater workers didn't already have their hands full trying to explain to moviegoers why Sandra Bullock wasn't in 28 Days Later, Fox is planning on making their job more difficult.

Beginning next Friday, Fox plans to attach an alternate ending to the successful, British science-fiction thriller. In a move usually saved for DVD, fans will get both the original ending in the script and a new, studio requested ending that is more dire in nature. It is believed that this will be the first time that an alternate ending is attached to a movie in its initial wide theatrical run.

The studio ending was shot when the original ending didn't test well. Ultimately, the filmmakers stuck with their ending and the $8 million movie has grossed more than $30 million worldwide, making it one of the most successful British independent movies of all time.
