And the next Superman is...

Director Bryan Singer wanted an unknown for the leading role in his upcoming Superman Returns. It seems that unknown is now known. His name is Brandon Routh.

Routh's credits include a handful of appearances on notable TV series like "The Gilmore Girls" and "Will & Grace". He also starred on MTV's late night soap "Undressed" and ABC daytime soap "One Life To Live".

Other young TV actors are being mentioned for the supporting roles. Mischa Barton from Fox's "The O.C." is reportedly up for Lois Lane while "That '70s Show" actor Topher Grace is in talks for Jimmy Olsen.

Superman Returns is expected in theaters sometime in 2006.
