'The Squid and the Whale' takes early awards season lead

You know awards season is right around the corner when the turkey has been picked clean, the first snow has fallen and the Independent Spirit Awards announces their nominations. And if you're a handicapper of the Oscars looking for a sleeper come Oscar time, look no further than The Squid and the Whale.

Squid led all other movies with 6 Indie nominations including Best Picture and acting nods for stars Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney. The winners will be announced on March 4th, the night before Oscar has his big night.
