The most talked-about film of the year is coming to DVD. The Ang Lee-directed Brokeback Mountain will arrive on DVD April 4.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment made the announcement this morning, a scant two weeks before its release. Studios usually have a 6-8 week window between announce and day of release, but several of this year's Oscar contenders are bucking tradition. Fox's Walk the Line announced its DVD plans on Feb. 21, one week prior to release date.

The triple Oscar winner (can we call it the Best Picture runner-up?) and eight-time nominee will be available in either a full-screen or widescreen format. The suggested retail price is $29.98 for either variety.

The film won Academy Awards for director Lee, screen writers Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, and composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal star in the movie.
