'Earl' goes bad in DVD-only episode

Fans of My Name is Earl are in for a treat when the season one DVD set of the series is released in September. An episode of the popular comedy will premiere on DVD.

According to Home Media Retailing, the bonus episode follows a storyline alternate to the show's pilot. In the real first episode, Earl (Jason Lee) discovers the power of karma and decides to atone for his past transgressions. In this alternate show Earl does the opposite -- he seeks revenge against the people who have wronged him in the past.

According to Ethan Suplee, doing a DVD-only episode gave them freedom from NBC's censors. Suplee plays Earl's dimwitted brother Randy in the series. "We got to play around a bit with it,” he said to HMR. "There's some funky stuff in there. I don’t think we said f*** or anything like that, but I definitely don't think you could air it on television."

The four-disc set from Fox will also contain episode commentaries, deleted scenes and a blooper reel. But it's not enough outtakes for Suplee.

"I'm pushing for an entire disc of bloopers, because I always feel like they don’t put enough in," he said. "We mess up at least once on every take -- a lot of teabag moments, too, a lot of dry-humping going on. At the wrap party, I was terrified and had to get my kids out of there before the gag reel aired, and that was only 13 minutes long. Just the language alone is awful."

Thanks, Ethan. Now we're not sure whether to be excited or scared of the show's release on DVD. Regardless, it's set for a Sept. 26 release.
