Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillipe hit splitsville

Their relationship blossomed like most in Hollywood, on the set of a movie (1999's Cruel Intentions), and apparently ended like those of their Hollywood peers as well. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have officially parted ways.

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," declared their shared publicist Nanci Ryder.

Reese won the Best Actress Oscar at this year's Academy Awards ceremony for her work in Walk the Line and continued a sad trend of late. Last year's Best Actress winner Hilary Swank divorced Chad Lowe earlier this year. 2003's winner Charlize Theron has never been married, but Nicole Kidman, 2002's Best Actress winner, went through quite the public divorce from A-lister Tom Cruise. Halle Berry got divorced after winning her Oscar and the list goes on and on.

A word to the wise for those actresses vying Oscar's top prize, make sure and thank your husband early in the acceptance speech.
