New Jason found for 'Friday the 13th'

According to the IMDb, the role of Jason Voorhees has been played six different actors in the 10 Friday the 13th movies. Seven, if you count Ken Kirzinger in Freddy Vs. Jason.

But, for me, there's only one Jason and he's Kane Hodder who took over the hockey mask in 1988 with Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Sadly, I must report that when New Line remakes Friday the 13th next year, the masked men club will rise by one more member.

Bloody-Disgusting.com is reporting that Derek Mears is set to play Jason Voorhees in the series reboot. And while I can appreciate the need for a younger Jason for a younger story line, something will be lost with Kane's departure from the series.

Seeing that I grew up on the whole Friday the 13th series, I will reserve judgment on Derek until I see him behind the mask, but he better tread lightly with his machete.

Friday the 13th is set to be released in theaters on Friday the 13th of February 2009.
