You need another 'Top 10 Movies of 2008' list like you need another hole in the head. On the contrary, I think what you need is a realistic top 10 list.

You don't need Roger Ebert's list of some artsy-fartsy films that played on two screens in NYC some time last February. You want and need a list of 10 solid movies that are included for their entertainment value -- not because they allow a critic to show how esoteric they really are.

Enter Film School Rejects' Neil Miller. I don't know this guy but I commend his choices for 2008's ten best. He's not afraid to include popular picks and knows when to include some smaller flicks that really deserve your attention.

Below we present Neil's top 10 picks along with the expected DVD availability of each. On the FSR web site, you can see 10 more movies he selected as honorable mentions. (I do have to respectfully disagree with his choice of The Promotion.)

  1. Iron Man - Now on DVD and Blu-ray
  2. The Fall - Now on DVD and Blu-ray (See John's review)
  3. Let the Right One In - Coming to DVD/Blu-ray on Mar. 10
  4. The Wrestler - Expected in April
  5. Son of Rambow - Now on DVD
  6. WALL-E - Now on DVD
  7. The Wackness - Arrives on DVD/Blu-ray Jan. 6
  8. The Dark Knight - Now on DVD and Blu-ray
  9. Slumdog Millionaire - Should be on DVD in March
  10. Man on Wire - Now on DVD
