Is it possible to be simultaneously filled with hope and dread? After reading this news, that's the point at which I'm at.

According to Cinema Blend, comedy director Judd Apatow is producing Ghostbusters 3. Yes, the comedic Midas best known for bringing us The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and others, is in charge of a sequel to the '80s film franchise.

The rumors of Apatow's involved has been, well, rumored for some time but the word has become virtually official with a mention in Production Weekly, the industry source for active film projects.

Cinema Blend writes:

The inclusion in Production Weekly means the whole thing is actually happening, beyond just Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray getting asked awkward questions about the project's status. No actor names are attached to the Production Weekly piece, but at this point, it seems like only a matter of time before the gentlemen prepare to suit up a third time.

I love Apatow and I love Ghostbusters but I'm not sure I want them together. Kinda like I don't want to try pizza-flavored ice cream.

Apatow has a thing for creating comedy with a heart. Ghostbusters doesn't have heart. It has slime and that's why we love it.

What do you think? Are you excited for a Judd Apatow-produced Ghostbusters 3? Have you ever had a pepperoni milkshake? Do tell.

Update: Strike that

So, yeah. This whole big hullabaloo? Forget about it. It looks like a Apatow-produced Ghostbusters 3 isn't happening. So says Sony Pictures via a blog on L.A. Times.
