'New Moon' director points out Easter eggs

You know what I like when I watch a movie? I really enjoy it when a director throws a little Easter egg or bone to the fans and I'm able to catch it. It makes you feel a shared kinship with said filmmaker.

Or, it makes you an extreme dork. Either way, I don't care.

Of course, this could explain my love affair with Lost, which turned the geek Easter egg into an art form with their voluminous little hints tucked into each episode. One of my favorite theatrical eggs comes from my favorite director Kevin Smith (naturally) who cheekily included a hat featuring the title treatment from his breakthrough hit Clerks in his second movie Mallrats.

Don't believe me? Check out Mallrats again and watch when Brodie and TS are slumming at the dirt mall. TS tries on the hat and then dismisses it quite rudely when he sees what it is. A funny little bit for sure.

So, it was with mild curiosity that I spotted this article over at EW.com in which New Moon director Chris Weitz revealed some of the little Easter eggs he threw into the massive blockbuster.

Perhaps my favorite on the list and one that really stood out to me at the time, and I didn't put one and one together until I read the piece, is the inclusion of a gold compass on Bella's backpack at the beginning of the movie. Weitz also directed The Golden Compass and apparently to paraphrase the director's words, it represented his own personal baggage.

Any Team Edward or Team Jacob gal worth her salt will click here now and check out the entire list. Which Easter egg was your favorite?
