You, yes you, could direct a Sundance film

Hollywood heavyweight Ridley Scott is teaming up with YouTube to give ordinary people a chance to tell an extraordinary story at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The project, called Life in a Day, will chronicle life all over the planet on a single day, July 24 to be precise.

The idea is to take YouTube user submission videos shot on July 24 and compile them into "a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010." The final product will debut at the Sundance Film Festival next year and anyone whose snippet is chosen will officially be given a co-director credit.

Kevin Macdonald is the established director of record who will help to choose the videos to be included and arrange them in a way to create a compelling story. Ridley Scott plans to fly in at least 20 of the user co-directors to Sundance for the world premiere, so not only is this your chance to be a Sundance director, but you could also earn the opportunity to hob-nob with the industry's power players in the winter wonderland that is Sundance.

You can find out more information here, but it's pretty apparent that the filmmakers are looking for everything and anything, no matter how mundane. Although, if I were a betting man, the more compelling your video, the better shot you have of making the cut.

In the meantime, enjoy this trailer below highlighting the project. Does this make you want to get out and film something on the 24th?
