'Buffy' returns to the big screen

First, it was a movie. Then, it was a popular TV series that spanned 7 seasons. And now, it seems that the supernatural vampire killer will be gracing the big screen once again.

Warner Bros. announced today that Buffy the Vampire Slayer will return to the big screen without any of the talent attached that helped to make the original 1992 movie a cult hit and the TV series a ratings monster. Specifically, the re-boot will not feature Joss Whedon in any capacity and if Warner Bros. did a quick straw poll via Twitter, I think they'd find the reaction tepid at best.

Producer Charles Roven did his best to assure the core audience that the new Buffy will stay true to the spirit of the established character.

"Whit [Anderson, the writer] approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy... Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."

Allow me to echo the sentiment found across all platforms of social media by saying that I remain skeptical about this new project, but I will keep an open mind. Surprisingly, I'm one of those people who liked the movie, but never got into the TV show (although, my girlfriend aims to correct that flaw soon).

What do you think of this new Buffy project? Producers are hoping for a 2011 or 2012 release.
