If you watched this past weekend's Oscars telecast and thought to yourself, 'Man, Natalie Portman is sure hitting the 3rd Dimension with this pregnancy,' then I'm happy to report that the young star is soon hitting 3D of a different ilk soon enough.

By the time that Nat's little one is born, he or she will be safe in the knowledge that they are not being born in a world in which The Phantom Menace does not exist in 3D. For the three of you out there excited to hear that Jar-Jar is coming to 3D, Lucasfilm and Fox confirmed today that Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is going to be released in 3D on February 10, 2012.

You can read an excerpt from the press release below.

Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the 3D theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace now has an official release date -- February 10, 2012! Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a "galaxy far, far away," Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga's most stunning and spectacular sequences -- from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi.

The line forms to the left. And you know that there will be people camping out already for this one when you visit the megaplex this weekend.

*sigh*

I was hoping this whole 3D fad would peter out before George Lucas was able to further hack into the movies that defined a generation. There's been no confirmation on the rumor that he intends to digitally insert Justin Bieber into the role of Anakin Skywalker, thus removing Hayden Christensen from the annals of Star Wars.

There was no further indication about the roll-out plans for the rest of the movies, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see them all in 3D. So, will you line up next year and see it in 3d?
