Would a 'Rosebud' by any other name be as sweet?

While film has always been a visual medium first and an aural medium second, one of the most surefire ways to gauge a movie's popularity is the extent to which people throw around quotes from said movie. Usually, the more quotable the movie, the more successful it is.

Of course, this has no bearing on whether the movie is any good, because taste is subjective and some of the "best" movies ever made never produced a single quote worthy line. But, it's those memorable lines from movies that are ingrained in our collective subconscious that can instantly take us to that galaxy far, far away when anyone utters, "May the Force be with you."

In keeping with that idea, I had to share this amazing video compilation done by those folks over at Exophrine (with a generous hat tip to /Film for making us aware of said video). The beauty of this video is that it presents a pretty comprehensive list of the top 150 movie catchphrases without being hindered by constraints.

Some movies have more than one quote and in a couple of spots, the video even shows how a quote is passed down and re-tooled. A good example of this is the infamous "Stinkin' badges" piece of dialog. The video shows how it originated in The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre and how they borrowed and re-phrased it naturally in Blazing Saddles.

This video even made me aware of one quote that I had never heard before from the 1932 film Freaks. I hadn't seen the film before, but I think that when you see the clip, you will agree with me that it's a film that needs to be sought out.

Enjoy and let us know what you think of it.
