I grew up on the The Smurfs and so it is with trepidation about my lost youth that is potentially being robbed to mine profits for movie studios that I'm not sure how I feel about this Fall's movie.

On the one hand, I really dug The Smurfs and can't wait to see them in a new, digitally enhanced state. While on the other, I'm left feeling a bit of nostalgia for the original 2D, hand-drawn creatures of my youth.

Is bigger always better?

As you know, my colleague wrote a convincing piece about the upcoming movie, but I'm left unswayed. The new trailer that you can see below courtesy of Yahoo! Movies is the latest piece of propaganda for the film and while I can get on board with the storyline, I'm having a real hard time buying into the new CG creations.

Although, I must say that "Braveheart" Smurf might just steal the movie and make up for all of the computer-generated garbage. For me, it's still too early to tell. What say you?

One thing I did notice in this new trailer is how overboard Sony is going to play up the whole "blue" theme. The taxis had ads for Blu-ray (which is a format that Sony created and championed) and the Blue Man Group. I just hope the ending doesn't leave me blue.

The Smurfs invade theaters on August 3.
