Oceans of blood gush from '300' sequel trailer

If there's one thing that 300 didn't shy away from, it was the copious amount of blood in the film. If the first trailer for the prequel/sequel 300: Rise of an Empire is any indication, there will be even more blood in the upcoming film.

In fact, the film takes the fighting to the water and the oceans naturally run red with all of the bloodshed. While Zach Snyder didn't direct this offering (he was too busy with little Man of Steel film), it appears that his vision will live on both in spirit and with him as producer.

The film retains the unique style of the first one and to me at least, that was the best part of 300. My wife Julie is a huge fan of the film, so I know she'll be giddy when she sees this trailer, but I was just a so-so fan of 300. However, this follow-up looks to be right up my alley. As much as I appreciated the visual style of the first film, I just thought that the story became stagnant and boring about half-way through.

From the trailer at least, it appears that 300: Rise of an Empire will expand mythology both in terms of battle and back story for Xerxes. It will also double the female quotient with the addition of Eva Green to the cast as Artemisia.

For those of you a bit rusty on your Greek mythology, Artemisia was the sole female commander in the Persian fleet and was mentioned repeatedly for his tactics and outright brutality. If you ask me, they got the right actress for the role and it shows in the trailer.

The only bad thing about this trailer is that you'll have to wait almost an entire year before you're able to see the film. 300: Rise of an Empire doesn't hit theaters until March 7, 2014.
