Is Tim Burton's 'Big Eyes' the next Weinstein darling?

The name Weinstein and Oscar have been synonymous for many years, so it shouldn't really be surprising that they have a slew of award contenders every year. And yet, each year they have one or two films that usually find themselves in the Best Picture conversation and people are shocked.

This year, it looks like Big Eyes might be the film with the best chance to snag multiple awards and after looking at the first trailer, I would tend to agree. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, the film tells the true story of Walter and Margaret Keane, artists who revolutionized the art industry with their distinctive style, but it later came out that all of the art was painted by Margaret and not Walter.

While Burton is known for his bold choices and flamboyant style, it would appear that he reined it in big time for this film and allowed the story and art to be the showcase of the film. I always love a good true story and this one doesn't look like it will disappoint.

Big Eyes hits theaters on Christmas day.
