I really love these monthly updates of the Star Wars universe, but I've quickly learned that with so many different tangents in the Star Wars world, it's hard to keep up with everything. Think about it.

There are the films obviously, but there's also the Star Wars Rebels animated TV show, books, comic books, theme park updates, and so on and so on. Let's face it, we live in an exciting time as a Star Wars fan and it's nearly impossible to keep up with everything.

That's a long way of saying that it has become clear that this monthly column will need to have some direction moving forward. I think it makes the most sense for us to focus on the films and TV series given the direction of our website. That's not to say that we won't touch on the other areas, but I will probably try and stay on track as much as possible.

That being said, if there's huge news in the Star Wars world, we will let you know, regardless of area. Also, as we touched on earlier, if the news is massive, we will post it in a timely manner and not wait until the next 4th. In fact, that happened in October.

  • Rogue One is due out in theaters next month, so it's obvious that we will have a lot of stuff with that film this month and next month. The last trailer for the film debuted and it was an example of a story that was too big to wait.

As we said back then, the trailer is amazing and it holds up. There are a few more plot specific scenes than what we are used to from a Star Wars trailer, but as a stand-alone film, I think it's needed.

  • This tidbit was really borderline in terms of deserving its own story, but ultimately I decided to hold it for this one. It was announced that Donald Glover has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming stand alone film Han Solo.

This is great casting in my opinion and it really gets me excited that Han Solo might be more than simply a "backstory film." In fact, I'm so excited about Han Solo, that I almost wish that they would spin off a series of Han Solo films.

Of course, knowing Disney and their penchant for sequels, this is still entirely possible. Han Solo is still set for a May 25, 2018 release, but don't be surprised if it gets pushed back to December 2018 to fall in line with Disney's newfound plan of releasing Star Wars films each December.

  • If you're looking for answers as to Rey's lineage and you don't want to wait until next year when Episode VIII comes out, you'll have to go elsewhere. Nope, I'm not going to spoil it, but there are rumors out there if you're curious. Don't ask Daisy Ridley either, because she's not telling, but she did discount the theory that Rogue One's Jyn Erso is her mom here./a>.
  • Speaking of Rogue One, Disney is starting a new annual tradition on ABC this Thanksgiving. The "Magical Holiday Celebration" will feature a bunch of celebs and all of Disney characters that your kids want to see. Oh yeah, it will also have a sneak peek at Rogue One.

Until next month, may the Force be with you.
