Review: 'Legends of Tomorrow' is historical for Season 5

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this news story. The opinions I share are my own.

It's funny, for every misstep that DC makes on the big screen, they continually deliver satisfying entertainment on the small screen. A lot of that success certainly falls in the hands of uber producer Greg Berlanti and his Arrowverse stable of TV shows on The CW, but it's like he has the Midas touch and it doesn't appear to be dissipating anytime soon.

In Season Five, the Legends are major celebrities and hire a documentary crew to follow them around and film them in action. Astra Logue frees history's most notorious villains from Hell and the Legends crew must travel through time to stop these reanimated "Encores."

As you're aware, I was late to the party for Legends of Tomorrow, but since Season Four, I'm all in. I was extremely excited for Season Five and the introduction of historical baddies only raised my interest to a whole new level.

Whether it was Bugsy Siegel, Marie Antoinette, or Rasputin, I was in for the historical shenanigans that only Legends of Tomorrow can provide. I have a feeling that this show will be one of those gems that develops a cult following long after it leaves the airwaves. Thanks to the glut of streaming services, that shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

Unlike many TV seasons, Legends of Tomorrow: Season Five is packed with a slew of extra goodies. Not only does the set include deleted scenes, a featurette and a gag reel, but all five episodes of the massive Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths are included in the collection. The CW is well known for their jam-packed extras and other networks should take note.

Season Six has been given the green light, but it's readily apparent that the cast will have a major shakeup. The season's cliffhanger notwithstanding, several leads were only credited through the first half of Season Five. While it's anyone's guess what the next season will look like, I, for one, will be there for the thrilling ride.

Whether you're a diehard fan of Legends of Tomorrow or a noob like me, you will find great value on this offering and I absolutely recommend watching it as soon as you can. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll end up on public access television - hopefully not.
