Early this morning, by West Coast standards, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 74th Annual Academy Awards.

And while this awards season has seen its fair share of surprises and snubs, it looks like it's going to be an Oscar ceremony filled with Hobbits, Elves and Wizards (oh my!) this year.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring led the way with 13 nominations, followed closely by A Beautiful Mind and Moulin Rouge with 8 nominations each.

The Oscars will be handed out live on March 24th, 2002 at their new home, the Kodak Theater.
