New Weekly Feature: Top 5 Reader Emails

One of the joys and wonders of running a website is that you are often the victim of pranks and hijinks. Whoever put my email on the "Depends Undergarments" mailing list, I'm talking about you. Another little perk is getting a ton of, well, bizarre emails.

In between the spam and the countless "you guys really suck" emails, every now and then we get one gem of an email that we pass around the office and stick up on the wall. We affectionately refer to it as the "email of the week," or whenever we get another one that supplants it.

In this vein, we thought it was only fair to include you, our loyal readers, in our delight. I mean what's the point of having a website if we can't include a little public ridicule, right? So, this will either make people think twice before hitting submit, or will lead those garish among you to aim for the top spot.

So, without further ado, here is our list of the top 5 emails that we've received in the last week (with our running commentary of course):

  1. hi there, i'm in the midst of setting up a video rental store in Singapore. i understand that you do not sell the movies listed on your site. Would you be able to advise me and point me to the right direction on where I would be able to get all the latest released titles wholesale?

    I would be so grateful if you can provide me with the above.

Hmm, well I assumed he meant that the idea of JCPenney ripping off John Huges sucked, but I guess he could've been criticizing my writing skills. If so, then please note, "No, it does not suck." See, not even a contraction.

    Man, what are you guys smoking in Florida? And verified by whom? I question your sources fine sir. It is true, I will admit it. We do get release dates from the studios a lot earlier in some cases than they will allow us to put in print. That's why we put a disclaimer on the pages in question and tell you when you can come back and learn the actual street date. For instance, if you come back on September 26th, we'll tell you when The Incredible Hulk will be on DVD. I will tell you that it's not November 25th. In fact, all of your dates are wrong, except for one, but I'll never tell. OK, now, I can tell you which one is right.

    Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Oh, and I couldn't find that date on your source site anywhere. As I mentioned above on September 26th, I'd be happy to tell you when it comes out on DVD. Here's a hint...think October.

    5. And drumroll please... Seriously, I can't make these emails up. This one was far and above our best email of the week.
