Monday Morning Mixer: 'America' destroys the box office

Here's a little story that anyone who writes or blogs or otherwise composes stuff for the web should know. Don't compose in the browser.

I admit, I do that all of the time. I've also lost a great deal of blood, sweat and tears over accidentally reloaded pages or crashes. UGH. And yet, I continue to do it much to Tim's chagrin.

If you couldn't figure it out by now, I just lost this morning's MMM. And it was a glorious MMM filled with witty insight and great speculation. Alas, it is gone forever and shall never see the light of day.

I know that I can never recreate it or have the two hours of time to re-write it, so instead, I present to you this far inferior Cliff's notes version of today's MMM. Feel free to close your eyes periodically and imagine my wit oozing from the screen.

Or not, because OK, that's sort of gross. What you can imagine is that this version (and all subsequent stories) will be written in an app that supports crash-saving. Until then, here's the meat, hold the potatoes.

Box Office 411

Captain America: The Winter Soldier had a very awesome weekend at the box office. It earned just over $96 million this weekend, a new April record! It also almost doubled the opening weekend of the first Captain America, so don't be surprised to see Winter Soldier end up with over $275 million.

No other big films debuted this weekend, but Frozen is chugging along with almost $399 million. So close and yet, so far away from that huge $400 million plateau.

Quick Hitters

  • According to director Richard Donner Goonies 2 is going to happen. And he hopes to have all of the cast back. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it, but hey, it hasn't stopped the rest of the Internet from going crazy about it.
  • This comes out of nowhere, but Alan Horn, the Disney Studios chairman, says that Episode VII is already filming and that most of the cast is set, but not all of the roles. You can check it out for yourself below.

  • Finally today, I'm sad to report that Hollywood's first teen heartthrob Mickey Rooney passed away yesterday in his North Hollywood home. The consumate actor was 93 years old.

Until next week, remember to save your work often and never compose in a browser. Oh yeah and Mix Well.
